GUIDE / META ASSETS
Business portfolio, profile, Page and ad account: what is the difference?
A business portfolio organizes business management; a profile identifies a person; a Page provides a public presence; an ad account supports campaign operations. These names often appear together, but they do not describe a single deliverable. Before requesting a proposal, identify the missing function. Many projects first need a permission adjustment on an asset they already have.

How the resources relate
The identity of the person receiving permissions.
Organizes the company’s resources and permissions.
The presence of a brand or business.
Organizes campaigns, billing and advertising settings.
Compare the function behind each name
BM, short for Business Manager, remains common in commercial descriptions. Meta documentation also uses business portfolio. When preparing an inquiry, identify both the asset and the activity you need to perform. This makes an ambiguous request easier to assess.
| Asset | Function | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| BM / business portfolio | Organizes business assets and people. | Administrators and connected assets. |
| Profile | Identifies the person using the platform. | Authentic identity and assigned permissions. |
| Page | Presents a brand and its public content. | Correct brand, responsible party and required access. |
| Ad account | Manages campaigns and advertising settings. | Correct account, currency, time zone and permissions. |
Access and responsibility are separate questions
Record who is responsible for the asset separately from who needs to work on it. A professional may need to create ads without managing everyone in the business. Meta documents different types of Page access; choose the required tasks instead of granting broad control for convenience.
Keep references and responsible parties in your inventory, not passwords. Confirm access through your own authorized session. An old screenshot or a similar account name does not establish that the asset shown matches the proposal.
Three situations that change the decision
- A brand already has a Page and ad account: first review the team's access. A missing permission does not establish a need to acquire another asset.
- An agency onboards a client: identify the client's structure, record the responsible party and agree on agency tasks before requesting access.
- A bundled proposal: turn descriptions such as complete package into an itemized list. A business portfolio alone does not establish that Pages or ad accounts are included.
Make an inventory before requesting a quote
Use one row per asset. Record the project, category, internal reference, responsible party, required activity and unresolved issue. You can then distinguish a missing asset from missing authorization or uncertainty about a package.
Illustrative example: a retailer already has a Page, but its new media buyer cannot create campaigns. The inventory should establish whether an ad account, a permission or a setting is missing. Ordering another package without this assessment may leave the original problem unresolved.
Bring a specific question to the conversation
Describe the activity your project needs to perform, the assets already available and the access or items you need to clarify. Request an itemized proposal covering quantities, total price, handover procedure and support conditions. Keep the answers with the order reference so you can check the agreed scope later.
Consider only assets and procedures consistent with your project's ownership and authorization. This functional map does not imply that personal identities are transferable or that the platform approves every commercial arrangement.
